Rain Puddle Palette

All of these recordings were done on a Sony Hi-MD Mini Disc recorder with stereo capsule mics. They were all recorded on a rainy day and are much more satisfying when listened to through headphones.

There’s a whole lot going on even on top of a small surface like a puddle so I thought to place the microphone just above the surface for maximum assurance I would pick up the highest frequencies available.

Crowded Bus Ride

I began recording the second I walked on the bus. This particular ride was crowded well and also had the transportation television loud enough even though I wasn’t seated near it.

A Walk In The Woods

Walking while recording allowed me to both change my space and sound environment dynamically as well as provide satisfying footstep effects allowing for a further description of the space’s terrain. This might be my favorite.

Beachscape

I lowered my microphone capsules down the sidewall of that circular vantage point. Through this, I was able to control the direction of my sound source by consequently blocking any input from behind me.

Urban Area

When you’re in the heart of a city you’re bound to get a loud and busy space. I feel as though the rain helped wet the environment making the soaked tires of passing cars seem to sound like airplanes streaking by at thunderous speeds.
